2016 year's grand prix winner
Memories of Past Times
Artist: Ron Dutton
(Great Britain)
RON DUTTON
The Jury's motivation:
The prestigious but difficult task of finding a candidate to be awarded with the FIDEM Grand Prix was given to a team of three members of the Executive and Consultative Committees: Ilkka Voionmaa, Javier Gimeno and myself.
This team met together and agreed on the following:
- The recipient of the Grand Prix should be someone with a significant career as medal artist and not an emerging artist.
- For the sake of even-handedness, the artists of our own countries should be out of the run. This meant that Finnish, Spanish and Portuguese artists were not considered as candidates.
Then, after individual and careful observation, the team met together and compared preferences and views. Fortunately there was an artist on the top of their preferences to be awarded with the Grand Prix: RON DUTTON.
No doubt we have considered his long, generous and prestigious career as a medal artist and teacher, with a strong and faithful collaboration with FIDEM. He has actually contributed to the training of many contemporary well known artists. But it was certainly his participation in the FIDEM exhibition of the XXXIV Congress in Belgium that moved the three members of the jury: four lush, colorful and high-spirited medals, demonstrating the enormous creativity of an experimented artist.
